The memorial will commemorate World War 1 conscientious objector and Brighton resident Archibald Baxter and other conscientious objectors.
The sculpture, designed by Arrowtown sculptor Shane Woolridge, is based on field punishment No1, which involved restraining a man to a post for hours at a time.
The memorial will feature text outlining resistance efforts across World Wars 1 and 2.
The unveiling had been delayed several times, but the memorial was close to being done. Archibald Baxter Memorial Trust chairman Emeritus Prof Kevin Clements said an official ceremony was planned for October 29. There would be guest speakers at the event, including Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and Mr Baxter’s granddaughter, Katherine Baxter.
