Missing dog back with owner

A Siberian husky dog, whose owner reported it stolen on Tuesday evening, was found outside the Andersons Bay crematorium in Dunedin yesterday morning.

The dog, Midas, had been taken for a walk on Chisholm Park about 5pm on Tuesday.

The woman owner had turned around and the dog, which would not normally leave her side, was gone and could not be found.

About 9am yesterday, cemetery services officer Jennifer Dyhrberg saw 10-month old Midas running around in bushes outside the crematorium and, remembering a story in the Otago Daily Times, rang police.

Operator John Perry caught the dog and looked after it until police arrived.

Midas was taken to the South Dunedin police station and later collected by his owner.
