A money drop at the University of Otago, which was postponed in March, is happening again but this time there will be no cash falling from the sky.
Instead, the V energy drink company promotion is happening in cyberspace.
Promotion organisers were planning to drop $100,000 worth of $5 notes at the Auckland, Canterbury and Otago campuses but had to bail out at the last minute because of health and safety issues.
Now, the money would be "thrown all over the web" in a virtual money drop, promotion spokeswoman Jessica Walsh said this week.
From now until midnight on Sunday, people could register to enter.
From Monday, they could play the money drop game, which involved finding a path through a maze to a park.
The 2000 people who negotiated the maze the quickest would win a spot on the park and the opportunity to win cash when the virtual money drop happened on September 1.
Once registered, people could play the game as often as they liked, she said.
"The idea is they will practise like mad and keep trying to get their time down."
The online game was open to all, although Ms Walsh said the promotion was still focused on university students.
