Outram Limousin breeders Rob and Jean Johnstone have done it again.
The couple have been awarded the Alan Dodd Trophy for the overall champion in the annual Otago-Southland beef carcass competition.
The competition was held last month at Alliance Group's Mataura beef plant.
Live judging was done by Mark Cuttance and Greg Clearwater, from PGG Wrightson.
Their champion was a Limousin steer from Tim Grant, of Milton, who was the recipient of the Doug Lindsay Trophy, while the reserve champion was a Limousin heifer from Clark Scott and Judy Miller, of Tapanui.
Mr Cuttance described judging as extremely difficult, due to the number of quality entries, possibly the best he had seen during his involvement in the competition.
Carcass judging was then done by senior staff from the Mataura plant. Points awarded for various factors, including eye muscle area, fat cover, pH, muscle and dentition.
Mr and Mrs Johnstone, who own the Glencairn Limousin stud, have enjoyed previous success in the competition. Stuart and Cheryl Clearwater, from Lumsden, won overall reserve champion.
