Two  St John paramedics (in foreground) help an injured  rider (largely obscured) after an accident during a motocross  event in  Berwick Forest yesterday.

The Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter flew into a small clearing about noon.

The rider was taken to Dunedin Hospital with leg injuries.

Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter chief pilot Graeme Gale said the helicopter had been used to swiftly transfer the injured person from a remote area.

It was initially thought  he might have to be winched up to the helicopter, but the small clearing had enabled the helicopter to land, he said.
