Motorcycles stolen from scout camp

A reward is being offered for the return of three motorcycles stolen from children at the Waiora Scout Camp.

Ocean Beach Scout Group leader Michael Adam said a red and white Honda CRF50, a red and white Honda CRF70 with the number 99 on the front and side, and a green and black Kawasaki 110 were taken from a motorbike trailer, between midnight and 7am yesterday.

"They were tied down on a motorbike trailer, up by the cabins, and the main camp gates were locked for the night.

"The tie-downs have all been cut and the bikes have been wheeled off the trailer and out to the main road. Then they’ve started them up and ridden off.’’

Mr Adam said the motorcycles belonged to three scouts, aged 9 and 10.

"We had them there as part of activities for the scout camp and the 10 kids attending were going to be riding them [yesterday].

"They didn’t get to do that. They were pretty disappointed.’’

He said the three scouts who owned the bikes were very upset.

The incident has been reported to police, and in the hope of finding the bikes quickly, Mr Adam has offered a reward of an undisclosed amount, to anyone with information leading to their recovery.

Dunedin police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers  0800-555-111.
