The dream of a late Mosgiel man is about to be realised.

Mosgiel Business Association member Kristy Compton said the Anzac-themed mural on a wall in Church St would be officially unveiled at a ceremony tomorrow.

The mural was finished by artists Tessa Petley and Daniel Mead last week.

The decision to paint the words ''In Memory of Mike Court'' on the bottom right-hand side of the mural was to recognise the Mosgiel RSA member who helped create the mural.

''Mike is a really, really nice man, the one guy who had the passion to start something - 100 people have ideas, they just don't follow through with them, but he did.''

Mr Court's widow, Diane, said she and her husband were having a coffee on the deck at Mosgiel RSA about a year ago when they decided a mural would look great on the wall.

''He went off on the Monday and annoyed people until he got it - he was really passionate,'' Mrs Court said, laughing.

Mr Court was “in and out” of Dunedin Hospital with various health problems from March 7.

The intention was for Mr Court to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony tomorrow but he died on May 7, aged 70.

Mrs Court took Mr Court to see the mural the day before he died.

Her husband liked the look of the ''amazing work'', Mrs Court said.

''Absolutely, he was thrilled.''

Mrs Court would attend the ceremony tomorrow with their two children Melanie and Michael.

The ceremony is on what would have been her husband's 71st birthday.

Mrs Compton said the ceremony would acknowledge the community support in getting the mural under way in time for Mr Court to see it.

''We did it together,'' Mrs Compton said, hugging Mrs Court as she cried at the wall yesterday.
