Neighbourly love was on display across Dunedin yesterday as suburbs around the city celebrated Neighbours Day.

In Concord, about 100 people turned out at Emerson Park at 1pm for games, a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and a chance to get to know their neighbours.

Organiser of the Concord event Janna Kyle, of Dunedin City Baptist Church, said events like yesterday's were important in today's society where there were fewer opportunities for neighbours to get to know each other.

Knowing your neighbours made communities safer, Ms Kyle said.

The Concord event was one of six across Dunedin. East Taieri, Green Island and South Dunedin also held events yesterday and Northeast Valley and Caversham had events earlier in the month.
