More cruise ship passengers will be dropped off in the Octagon.

In a statement, Enterprise Dunedin cruise manager Suzanne Jenkins said feedback from a trial when passengers from two medium-sized ships were dropped in the Octagon had encouraged them to move more drop-offs to the very centre of the city.

The trials were on November 22 and December 4.

She said the flow of traffic and passengers was well managed.

In addition to those already scheduled for the Octagon, there will be other days where the Octagon shuttle stop will be used.

These are: January 1, Celebrity Edge; February 11, Crown Princess; February 25, Crown Princess, and March 25, Celebrity Edge.

The buses had been dropping passengers outside Toitu and that would remain when the Octagon was closed for events, including scheduled protests, on double cruise days and for larger ships and shuttle numbers, such as Anthem of the Seas and Discovery Princess.

Enterprise Dunedin remained committed to the safety of visitors and residents, while delivering the best possible experience possible for cruise guests, Ms Jenkins said.

The Dunedin City Council would continue to monitor both shuttle stops manually and via cameras to ensure safety and efficiency throughout the season.

At the end of the season a review will be carried out on the suitability of both locations for future cruise operations based on passenger numbers and shuttle numbers.
