Two students were allegedly assaulted in George St, near Subway, just before midnight on Wednesday, May 8, by three assailants who were unknown to the pair.
Detective Jenepher Glover, of Dunedin, said the assault was sparked when one of the trio told the student - ''Hey, you look like Kurt Cobain'' (the late Nirvana frontman).
That later escalated into the trio allegedly attacking the pair, who were pushed and punched to the ground, with one of the men ''getting kicked in the head''.
