Police and other emergency services in Dunedin were kept busy this morning attending a series of motor accidents, at least two of them linked to icy conditions.
A police spokeswoman urged motorists to drive to the conditions and "take extra care on the roads", given winter conditions.
A Chorus van displaying an L plate slid into a power pole, heavily damaging it, in Glen Rd, in icy conditions shortly after 9.30am, and a Fire and Emergency New Zealand appliance from Lookout Point attended. No one was hurt.
Among other accidents this morning, a car slid on ice at Pigeon Flat, on the Northern Motorway, about 9.45am, apparently partly blocking the road.
A second vehicle then slid into the first vehicle, but no-one was hurt and one of the vehicles was towed away.
Another accident, apparently not weather-related, involved a car and a female pedestrian in Vogel St, about 10.15am.
The pedestrian received a suspected ankle injury, believed to be minor, and was taken to Dunedin Hospital by St John Ambulance, about 10.15am.
Emergency services also attended a reported car roll-over on State Highway 1, at Te Houka, near Balclutha, at 11.18am.
St John Ambulance staff checked a 22-year-old female occupant of the car, but no transport to hospital was required, a St John spokesman said.
