The beautiful, vaulted aisles of St Paul’s Cathedral will be the backdrop for a pottery exhibition in support of the Dunedin Night Shelter Trust.

Organised by potters Nicole Kolig, Marion Familton, Josephine Waring and Neil Grant, the ‘‘Sustain’’ exhibition involves more than 160 pieces by 21 Dunedin and Otago potters.

‘‘We decided to go with tableware as our theme, so the pieces are all the types of things that people would use or place on the table,’’ Ms Familton said.

They included bottles, vases, candlesticks, plates, bowls and mugs.

‘‘They are useful things, as well as being beautiful things,’’ she said.

The organisers had been delighted by the response from local potters, who donated many of the works outright for the cause.

‘‘We are really pleased to have such good support for the Dunedin Night Shelter Trust —they do such a superb job,’’ Mrs Waring said.

The group thanked St Paul’s Cathedral Dean Trevor James and the cathedral staff for their support in hosting the exhibition.

‘‘We feel very lucky to have such a magnificent backdrop for our exhibition,’’ Ms Familton said.

The Sustain exhibition opened Saturday November 18  at St Paul’s and will be open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, until December 2. Sunday hours will be noon to 4pm.
