Dunedin man Jareth Elliott-Dodds and his mother Allison Dodds carry their purchases from the annual Dunedin Botanic Garden plant sale back to their car on Saturday.

"There was a big queue formed before it even opened", Mr Elliott-Dodds said.

"Someone in there described it like a rugby scrum."

He had recently moved house and thought the plant sale was the perfect opportunity to bring some life into his new place, Mr Elliott-Dodds said.

"It was well timed to come in and get some really nice plants at pretty incredibly low prices compared to what you’d be paying elsewhere."

Seeing as his mum was "big into her gardening", he brought her along as she was always looking to "add to the collection".Mr Elliott-Dodds went away with a mixture of indoor and outdoor plants including a daisy bush and a Tropic Snow (Dieffenbachia) plant.
