A Dunedin-based luxury tourism operator is tapping into the Chinese market after winning a $25,000 promotion package through the Tourism Asia Marketing Fund.
Denis Page, of Si Fang Luxury Travel, won the fund's inaugural competition, which will allow him to implement an Asian tourism business strategy.
Mr Page said the prize was invaluable and better than cash.
He had to show viable marketing strategies, strong forward planning, innovation and understanding of the target market.
"I have been working on a plan to break into, and be successful with, the Chinese market for the past year, so entering this competition was just a matter of extending my business plan," he said.
The Tourism Asia Marketing Fund was run by Auckland Airport and provided Mr Page with $25,000 of marketing support and business development assistance, including a trip to Asia.
It was part of Auckland Airport's Ambition 2020 project to build growth in key tourism markets including China, Taiwan and Indonesia.
Queenstown company Ziptrek Ecotours won $5000 worth of marketing support through the competition in second-equal place with Coromandel firm Bularangi Motorbikes.
