Mornington School pupils (from left) Lachie Jephson (9), India Battrick (10), Amelia Hollows (10), Tara Forbes (10) and Montell Penese (9) jump for joy about the 3-D artwork they created on the school's pool.

The artwork was one of three created by the school's 275 pupils as part of a school-wide inquiry on how art enhances the natural environment.

Mornington School principal Brent Caldwell said junior pupils made 120 ceramic tiles and senior pupils made the 3-D work and a mural.

The artworks meant present-day pupils would have a lasting legacy at the school, Mr Caldwell said.

Pupil Amelia Hollows (10) said seeing the project evolve had been enjoyable.

``I found it really fun because I like to do art.''

Pupils visited Dunedin street art sites and listened to talks from local artists during their inquiries, Mr Caldwell said.
