The artwork was one of three created by the school's 275 pupils as part of a school-wide inquiry on how art enhances the natural environment.
Mornington School principal Brent Caldwell said junior pupils made 120 ceramic tiles and senior pupils made the 3-D work and a mural.
The artworks meant present-day pupils would have a lasting legacy at the school, Mr Caldwell said.
Pupil Amelia Hollows (10) said seeing the project evolve had been enjoyable.

Pupils visited Dunedin street art sites and listened to talks from local artists during their inquiries, Mr Caldwell said.
