Reflecting on the past

The Taieri River ambles through Henley, where the abandoned Henley Co-operative Cheese factory and a lower Taieri pumping station sit beside Riverside Rd.

The factory was established in 1886 as a butter factory before switching to cheese production in 1914.

The factory was eventually bought out and relocated to Momona before becoming part of Mainland Cheese.

The pumping station is part of the Lower Taieri Flood Protection Scheme which empties water from inside floodbanks where it cannot be drained by gravity.
