St John senior paramedic Ian Ridley collects a $100,000 cheque for the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust at the Mitre 10 Mega car park in Dunedin on Friday.

The Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter flew in to collect the cheque after fundraising by local businesses.

Mitre 10 Mega Dunedin, the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand and Harcourts Dunedin combined to build and sell a three-bedroom property to raise the funds.

The funds would go towards upgrading the rescue helicopter trust's aircraft so the team was able to better transport its neonatal incubator, trust manager Ken Franklin said.

''Any upgrade work undertaken on our aircraft is expensive and the success of the house auction will underwrite a major portion of this cost.''

Mitre 10 Mega Dunedin chief executive officer Neil Finn-House said the charity was a worthy recipient.

The house was built over six weeks and sold by Harcourts Dunedin at auction on May 30.

Mitre 10 Mega provided materials and the Certified Builders Association provided labour, he said.

The house has been relocated to Cromwell for use as a family holiday home.
