Rocking on

Otago meteorite hunters (from left) Kate Oktay, On Lee Lau, Andrew Mills, Jordan Riddell, Kate Botting and Craig Grant, have their eyes down for the prize as they search for a "fireball" that fell to Earth last week at an unknown location west of Dunedin.

Otago second-year master’s student Thomas Stevenson, who has been co-ordinating the search, said volunteers were still optimistic they could find the space rock.

They planned to increase the search today by including students from Otago high schools who were interested in astronomy and geology.

Yesterday the team had about 50 people hunting across hilly paddocks in Middlemarch. Fireballs NZ originally captured the flaming meteorite entering the Otago region on night-sky cameras it deployed recently, and said finding the meteorite would be "a huge discovery" for Dunedin.
