A Dunedin business is stamping its mark on next month's royal visit - literally.

Southern Colour Print has been commissioned by New Zealand Post to print a run of commemorative stamps to mark the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's visit to New Zealand.

Managing director Sean McMahon said the company was excited to be involved with the royal visit.

It was ''great'' news for the company, although the project was still in its ''very early stages''.

The images of William, Kate and baby George were approved by the Queen and would feature on 70c and $2.40 stamps.

NZ Post would also release a commemorative $1 coin.

The company previously printed stamps for NZ Post to mark royal events such as William and Kate's marriage and the birth of George.

NZ Post head of stamps and coins Simon Allison said there would be ''huge demand'' for the stamps.

William and Kate had ''rejuvenated that passion'' for the Royal Family in New Zealand, Mr Allison said.

Southern Colour Print product manager Jimi Brandham said about 60,000 stamps would be printed by the company to mark the occasion.

The limited nature of product made them ''more inviting'' to stamp collectors, Mr Brandham said.

The stamps and coin will be released on April 7 to coincide with William and Kate's arrival in New Zealand.

The couple are due to visit Dunedin and Queenstown on April 13.
