More than 80 floats, 150 children and a white-bearded man dressed in a red suit will descend on George St once again for the annual Santa Parade today.
Dunedin Santa Parade Trust chairman Mark Laughton said there would be 82 floats in the parade, about half of which were owned by the trust.
"That's a mixture of our floats and all the participants. We get marching people, we get brass bands, all those sorts of things.''
In addition to the crowd favourites, there would also be new items.
"There's a couple of surprises. We don't let away what it is.'''
Once Santa had made his appearance, there would be a family-friendly concert in the Octagon.
"It's a great concert for all to get to and see.''
Mr Laughton said 30 cars would be supplied by Cooke Howlison to tow the floats.
"I could not put [the parade] on without the great generosity of some local businesses.''
Many businesses contributed their products, services and money, he said.
Mr Laughton said the committee spent a year raising money, which went towards rent, float maintenance, street closure and security.
