The past and present met  at a special high tea at the Savoy in Dunedin yesterday. Guest speaker Natalie Wilson spoke  about her research into the Savoy’s past.

It was a "personal project" to compile information and material about the building and the old Criterion Hotel, which previously occupied the  Savoy site in Princes St. She wanted to find more out about the building and the people who contributed to its history.

"When you speak to people you they often have a memory of going to the Savoy."

She was "amazed" to find out how much particular families contributed to the building over the years, either in support or by owning it at various stages.

The Savoy was built  in 1914. Southern Heritage Trust member Ann Barsby said the high tea,  attended by about 60 people,  was held  yearly.

This year’s theme was "past, present and future".
