Dunedin police are seeking information about the burglary of a camper van (pictured), and the theft of camera equipment worth about $4000 from inside.

Sergeant Dave Scott said the vehicle was broken into between 5pm and 6.15pm yesterday. It was parked in the Countdown supermarket car park in the central city.

Sgt Scott said a side window was jemmied and left shattered on the ground. As well as cameras and camera equipment, a 40-litre red backpack containing womenswear was stolen.

Sgt Scott asked anyone who saw the break-in, or had information about the incident, to contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800.

''Given the circumstances I think there is a high possibility a member of the public has seen something that could assist this investigation,'' he said.

It was the second such burglary of, and theft from, a camper van in Dunedin this week.

On Tuesday afternoon a camper van being used by English visitors was burgled and their belongings stolen. The vehicle was parked near Mt Cargill.
