Passengers from the cruise ship Radiance of the Seas (from left) Gail and David McEvoy, of Perth, Scotland, Tracy and Brad Screaigh, of Perth, Australia, and Terri and Chilli Munoz, of Wollongong, look on as former Dunedin resident Shane Legge uses a magnifying glass to burn an image through solar pyrography on recycled wood outside the Dunedin Railway Station yesterday.

Mr McEvoy said the art was "wonderful".

Mr Legge (49), now of Otematata, works part-time as an artist, and enjoyed working with fire to create works of art, including birds and the railway clocktower, at a distance.

"It feels amazing to produce a picture without ever touching it," he said.
