Not only does this family stay together, it rides and jumps together, too.

The Redwoods are the backbone of the Awatere team, from Marlborough, at the South Island Pony Club showjumping championships in Mosgiel.

Four of the children make up the six-strong team, another brother is the coach, a sister is the strapper, and Mum is the team manager.

And Dad?

"I'm just the dogsbody," Chris Redwood said.

"It's all horses or hockey at our house. The pony club field is a paddock at the front of our house."

Patrick (20), Innes (16), Lizzie (14) and Genevieve (12) are members of the team, while Vincent (20), Partick's twin, is the coach of the team.

Zoe (18) is the strapper and Mum Trish the manager.

The family has 14 horses on their farm outside Blenheim, and Mr Redwood said no-one got tired of talking about horses.

Vincent got the family involved in the sport when he was 7 and everyone followed.

He was now concentrating on polo but said his brothers and sisters were easy to coach.

The family and other team members, Evie Benger (13) and Rhiannon Lawrence (16), had travelled the furthest - 14 hours over two days - to get to the championships, with six horses in tow.

They performed better than expected in the event, finishing fifth.
