The former Mosgiel Memorial RSA bowling club premises have been demolished and residential housing is likely to be built there.

The 0.1975ha site at 3 Church St, Mosgiel, was sold to BA Building Ltd late last year, for what RSA officials have said was "just over $1 million".

The Mosgiel Memorial RSA has retained its main clubrooms and restaurant on the opposite side of Church St, and president Debbie Kennedy said the club and restaurant were thriving and attracting strong community support.

BA Building Ltd director Brodie Anderson said recent demolition work had gone well and the next task was to "backfill" the residentially-zoned, former bowling club site, levelling it off and bringing in surveyors to undertake further work.

A start could also be made in bringing in appropriate services for the site, Mr Anderson said.

Asked how many dwellings would be built, when a start might be made on construction and whether multi-level town houses were being considered, he said any proposals were yet to be finalised and "we haven’t really decided" exactly what was intended.

An application to the Dunedin City Council would have to be made and considered before any development could be undertaken, he said.
