Two people are dead after a two-vehicle crash in rural Southland this morning.
Emergency services were notified of the crash at about 8.40am, at the intersection of Fairfax-Isla Bank Rd and Isla Bank-Flints Bush Rd, in Isla Bank, near Otautau.
A police spokesman said despite extensive efforts by emergency services, the two people died at the scene.
The road was closed for much of the day and has since reopened following a scene examination by the Serious Crash Unit.
