Alastair Galbraith, of The Rip, performs at the Screaming Rooster in Stafford St, Dunedin, on Saturday night at the book launch of Needles and Plastic, which is about the history of Flying Nun Records between 1981 and 1988.

The independent record label is synonymous with the Dunedin Sound, which has mostly been described as indie pop, typically featuring jangly guitars and influenced by punk rock.

The book was written by Canadian author Matthew Goody.
