Four fire crews attended the scene of a South Dunedin house fire which was well ablaze.

One person sustained minor injuries and St John were also in attendance.

A 31-year-old Dunedin man has been arrested in connection to the fire but no charges have been set, a police spokeswoman said.

A Fire Service spokesman said four crews and an area commander attended the blaze in Oxford St.

Firefighters received the first call about the fire at 4.42pm and the first unit arrived at the scene about eight minutes later.

"The house was well ablaze when we showed up,'' he said.

The Fire Service cordoned off nearly 10 houses in the area.
