Stadium shows: let them entertain you

Music fans have two more reasons to celebrate as pop superstar Robbie Williams and Pink Floyd founding member Roger Waters prepare to head to Dunedin next year.

It was confirmed yesterday Waters (73) would bring his "US + THEM" tour to New Zealand in January, touring the country for the first time since "The Wall Live" broke sales records in 2012.

Waters will perform at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on Tuesday, January 30, days after playing Auckland’s Spark Arena on January 24.

He would be followed by Williams, who would bring "The Heavy Entertainment Show World Tour" to Dunedin’s stadium on Saturday, February 17, it was confirmed yesterday.

The singer of Angels, Let Me Entertain You and Feel, who as a solo artist has sold more than 77million albums, will perform at Auckland’s Spark Arena days earlier, on February 14.

Tickets to Williams’ show will go on sale at 10am on Thursday September 7, followed a day later by ticket sales for Waters’ show, beginning at noon on September 8.

Fans were quick to react with delight online yesterday.The twin coups came just months after the stadium secured three Ed Sheeran concerts for March and April next year.

And, last month, it was confirmed Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks would return to the stadium with The Pretenders, fronted by Chrissie Hynde, for a double-act show on November 24.

Waters is at present touring North America, where he has garnered rave reviews for "US + THEM", which drew on Pink Floyd’s greatest albums, The Dark Side of The Moon, The Wall, Animals, and Wish You Were Here.

It also included new material from Waters’ album Is This the Life We Really Want?, which recently debuted at No2 on the RIANZ Album Chart.
