Construction is under way at St Hilda’s Collegiate in Dunedin.

Principal Jackie Barron said the school was undertaking a refurbishment of its third-floor science laboratories, which included four classrooms.

The school was turning the laboratories into ‘‘modern and exciting’’ teaching spaces with new storage and work spaces.

There would be a lift to access the fourth floor in the building and the Neville block would be fully accessible, she said.

The school was also rebuilding the west stairs to make them more fit for purpose as a high-traffic entrance to the school.

The staircase would be semi-enclosed and a new roof would be installed.

The work was planned and budgeted for in the school’s 20-year property plan and set to be completed by November.
