Lynne Ryder says she was at the very least owed an apology for the treatment she received at the rest-home.
The rest-home has been at the centre of controversy in recent months involving accusations of bullying by management of residents and staff, residents and staff trespassed, and complaints to WorkSafe and the Health and Disability Commissioner.
Minister of Health Simeon Brown also got involved and his officials carried out an audit into the rest-home in December.
New Zealand Aged Care Services Ltd, which operates the rest-home, confirmed last month the rest-home manager had resigned. The manager, Jillian Jones, submitted her resignation while on leave over Christmas and New Year.
The company is recruiting for a new manager.
Mrs Ryder said yesterday the operators of the rest-home should issue an apology for the way staff and people were treated at the home. Nurses had been poorly treated.
She alleged the manager had to be held accountable for her actions.
After numerous incidents at the rest-home, including being yelled at by the manager and given a final warning despite having no idea what she had done, Mrs Ryder and her partner decided to leave the complex.
But she said they could not even leave with any degree of grace from the management.
"We had to stand out in the rain and were not allowed to go back inside. Not allowed to go back in and say goodbye to our friends," she said.
She left behind some items and wanted to get them forwarded, but the manager made it clear she did not care about the items.
"She had no intention of sending them on.
"I had been given some plants from my sons, who have both died. So the plants were quite special to me, something I really valued. But they’ve gone. I have no idea where they are now."
She said she had sent emails and messages to the operator about issues she had encountered, but had not received one reply. She just wanted people who had operated the rest-home to be accountable for their actions.
She and her partner were now living in the South Care rest-home in George St and they were loving their time there, she said.
