The Dunedin buildings have been reduced to rubble as work progresses on the university’s new 450-bed Te Rangi Hiroa residential college.
The studio, where thousands of musicians have made recordings, was built to house the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation.
When the NZBC stopped using the facility, the university leased the building. It then purchased it in 2008.
New studios have been built in Union St East. In the demolished studio’s place, a purpose-built six-storey residence with 125 bedrooms, a dining hall and kitchen, multi-functional communal spaces, offices, a reception, and college staff accommodation is under construction to help the university meet a forecast rise in student numbers.
