Taieri Times is recognising people for the good they do in the community. In ‘‘Top Types’’ we will be celebrating these people. This week we talk to Kelly Ennis.

One Mosgiel local says she pours hours of her time into her community because she enjoys it and it's a great place to live.

Last month Kelly Ennis was made chairwoman of the Festival of the Plain and the associated Party in the Park.

The annual weeklong Mosgiel event held in February involved many activities for people to get involved with and finished with a party in the park.

Mrs Ennis said it was a great event and something the community looked forward to.

Mrs Ennis grew up in Dunedin before moving abroad but moved back to Mosgiel seven years ago.

Since then she has owned a cafe and recently started up her own business.

She was previously secretary of the Festival of the Plain committee, which was comprised of 12 active volunteers.

But this is her first year as chairwoman and she said preparations were already well under way, as "it's a big job''.

"It's such a great event that the community looks forward to and gives them the opportunity to attend an affordable and sociable event.''

She said for the event next year the committee would be inviting back groups which had previously taken part, as well as trying to involve some new ones.

The event provided an opportunity to showcase local businesses and she hoped people saw it as a chance to celebrate life on the Taieri, Mrs Ennis said.

"Working with people who are volunteers is great. None of us have to be there ... we all share the same idea that an event like this is good for the community.''
