Council acting group manager parks and recreation Tom Dyer said all material confirmed as containing asbestos had been disposed of at the Green Island landfill asbestos pit.
Contractors were continuing with the planned work, but wearing protective gear as a precaution.
The council was working closely with asbestos specialist Salmac and it was hoped the area could be declared safe next week.
The council was looking into how the asbestos material came to be in the soil, Mr Dyer said.
