Dunedin police used a Taser to subdue a 27-year-old Dunedin man last night after pepper-spray was ineffective.
Officers were called to a Musselburgh Rise address to assist mental health workers with a patient, shortly after 6.15pm.
While at the address a constable was assaulted by the man, Sergeant Dave Scott said.
Pepper-spray was used in an attempt to subdue the man but when that was ineffectual, a Taser was used.
The man, who was attended to by a doctor as part of police Taser protocol, was uninjured in the incident and taken to Dunedin Hospital.
The constable not injured, he said.
The incident was believed to be the third involving a Taser in the Southern District since they became available in mid-March.
