The Unidentifyd was third, with Da Girls, from Taieri College, winning the event.
Organiser Dan Kendrick said about 200 people watched 10 bands perform in the event.
''There were plenty of talented and excited kids there strutting their stuff,'' he said.
The crowd was ''great'' and the atmosphere was ''cool'', he said. Da Girls will now compete against regional finalists from Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Tauranga, Napier, Hamilton and Auckland, with the national winner announced on September 24.
