Broad Bay residents Rolien Ham-Geliefde and Lee Russell sealed the deal with a 1940s-themed wedding at the Fletcher House on Saturday.
Mr Russell had left Ms Ham-Geliefde speechless after a stylish proposal at Warbirds Over Wanaka last year.
The pair both dressed in military apparel were attending the event when the former British Royal Air Force communications specialist got down on one knee and proposed.
The couple could not have been more excited their big day had finally arrived.
"We’ve got all the people that we love here and we’re in the place that we love," Mr Russell said.
Both bride and groom had a dress and suit custom-made that were inspired by fashion that was in vogue in the 1940s.
The reception venue, the Broad Bay Community Hall, was decked out in sandbags and military decor.
As they walked down the aisle members of the Oamaru Coastal Defence Crew presented them with arms.
Their special day went exactly the way they imagined it would.
Mr Russell said their wedding was called "operation lifelong".
The couple had met while studying an online health and safety course at the Southern Institute of Technology.
They began messaging each other when they discovered they both lived in Dunedin and their love blossomed after meeting face to face at a war re-enactment in Oamaru.
They were happy to be married on November 8 as it was close to Armistice Day (November 11).
