Dunedin's Urgent Doctors and Accident Centre was forced to close at 6pm tonight.

A sign on the door explained the closure was due to staff shortages.

The medical centre apologised for the "inconvenience" and advised people to go the Dunedin Hospital emergency department or call 111 if it was an emergency.

The Filleul St clinic usually closes at 10pm and provides urgent medical assistance for accidents and illnesses.
