A group of five youth, some as young as 12, has been trespassed from a central Dunedin fast-food restaurant for two years after acting disorderly, police say.

Police were contacted by the manager of McDonald’s Dunedin, in George St, about 3.30pm yesterday, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.

Multiple youths were reportedly causing disorder in the restaurant, and the manager wished for them to be removed and trespassed.

Police found five youths, aged 12-17, at McDonald's who were identified as the offending group.

All were removed from the restaurant and trespassed for two years, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.

‘‘However, two youths were arrested for the disorder as they refused to cooperate with police and provide their details for the trespass orders.

‘‘The names were eventually provided, and all children were returned to their caregivers and police youth services will follow up.’’

It is not the first time police have been called to the restaurant.

In April, police were called to George St at 3.40pm after reports of 20 teenagers fighting outside the restaurant.

As officers were interviewing the teens in nearby Hanover St, a 67-year-old pensioner allegedly strangled an officer as he was under the belief that police were not allowed to speak to teenagers.
