Starry, starry nights for Speight’s chimney

Illuminating the Dunedin skyline is a projection featuring three stars upon the chimney at Speight’s Brewery.

The brewing company, established in 1876, had wanted to do something visible and impactful to commemorate its 150th anniversary, a Lion NZ spokesperson said.

It already had the ability to light up the pedestrian bridge over Rattray St.

‘‘The chimney and barrel are prominent features of the brewery and the team thought it would be cool to light them up, too.

‘‘The 150th anniversary gave us a great reason to do this and so working with Strawberry Sound we made it happen.’’

The chimney was lit up on May 21 and would remain so, for part of the day, until the end of the year.

The ability to light up the chimney was now a permanent feature and would be used to promote events Speight’s supported — such as in recent years when the pedestrian bridge was lit pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the spokesperson said.
