The engine, named to commemorate New Zealand Railways employees who died in World War 1, left Picton on Monday.
One hundred and seventy-six passenger were on board the train yesterday.
People were eager to see the historic engine and some had followed the train in cars and camper vans from Picton.
The train will take passengers to Middlemarch and Sawyers Bay this weekend.
The engine will return to Picton on November 8.
