Many Dunedin people have heeded the call to ensure they are correctly recorded on the electoral roll ready for the forthcoming referendum.
Dunedin North and Dunedin South registrar of electors Dee Vickers said she and her staff had had a very busy week as people rushed to ensure they were enrolled before the main printed roll for the referendum closed yesterday.
Up-to-date enrolment numbers were not available yesterday.
Although those who want to vote can still enrol until July 30, those enrolling by that date will be sent their voting papers a few days later than those who enrolled before July 10.
The first voting forms will be sent from July 31 to August 3, and the forms for those on the supplementary roll will be sent on August 4.
Voting on the referendum question "Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand?" will close on August 21.
