Mrs Renata, along with her partner, John Renata and three Ashburton granddaughters Shakiya Thomson, Sophie Kenny and Zoe Kenny were staying at the site until next Thursday.
"It’s amazing," Zoe Kenny said.
''[It’s] really good. I love the camp ground and the people are great."
Mrs Renata said her husband worked on the railway lines, which led to them temporarily living at the campsite for nearly three months at the start of the year.
They permanently live out of their camper van and at the moment it has a tent attachment set up outside where her granddaughters are sleeping.
"First time we actually came here was last year, start of this year.
"We were here for two and a-half months. It was fantastic.
"We wanted to come back here for the New Year and that. We love it."
They arrived on Friday and will leave on January 2.
So far the stay had included some up and down weather, Mrs Renata said.
"The weather could have been a bit more exciting."
The first night they were there included thunder, lightning and hail.
Mrs Renata said she hoped the remainder of their stay would bring better conditions.
As well as helping with camp clean-up, the girls had been searching for cockles and mussels, as well as fishing for tadpoles.
The manager at Waikouaiti Beach Camping Caravan Park, Margaret Meikle, said their site would host a big New Year’s party involving the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association.
The party would include a big stage for guests to take part in karaoke, a passion of one of the other managers of the camp site.
"We’re going to loan their [NZMCA] marquee because we’ve got bigger and bigger and bigger.
"The manager here sings karaoke, he’s got his music here.
"They put on the music and all of the campers take part until just after midnight.
"We encourage the community to come by as well, they’re welcome. We sit down and have a couple of drinks, as you do when you’re camping."
