Feedback sought on park plan

Plans are being firmed up for the future management of Dunedin’s busy Logan Park sports complex.

Another round of consultation is under way and is due to run until November 3.

Logan Park, about 2km northeast of the Octagon, is described in a draft management plan as the city’s premier outdoor sports facility.

It has a series of playing fields and pitches for football, rugby, cricket and hockey, including artificial surfaces, as well as an athletics track and tennis centre.

Issues identified during a previous round of consultation included limited parking and high demand resulting in increased pressure on the facility.

Over-subscription, failure by some users to adhere to a booking system and a historical lack of co-ordinated development were among the weaknesses identified.

Strengths included the facility’s central location and efficiency offered by artificial pitches.

The draft plan listed opportunities that included consolidating future building development and improving accessibility for all users.

Council parks and recreation group manager Heath Ellis said the draft plan was formed after initial feedback.

"The second stage of engagement will help us make good decisions about how Logan Park is used and protected," he said.

"The final plan will reflect what Dunedin people value about this space." — Allied Media
