Walkers head out on the inaugural Wellness Walk from King's High School, in Dunedin, yesterday.

The 5km walk around South Dunedin was organised by the Tapestry Clubhouse and Otago University Students' Association as a way to raise awareness of the Mental Health Foundation's five ways to keep well - connect, be active, keep learning, give, and take notice. Tapestry Clubhouse member Bernie Aitken said her group had wanted to do a Mental Health Week event that involved the public and the students' association was also planning an event so they combined them. More than 50 walkers took part.

''If it works well it'll be a cool thing to do every year.''

Student Rebecca Grattan said it was great to have an event where students could get involved with the general public
