Wiggles to do farewell tour

The Wiggles as we know them may be disbanding, but it will not stop the colourful quartet from touring the world a last time, giving Dunedin fans a chance to say farewell.

After 21 years, Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt said recently 2012 would be their final year of touring together, and they would mark the milestone with their Celebration Tour of New Zealand in September.

They will be joined by Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus and the Wiggly dancers to sing their big hits, such as Hot Potato, Getting Strong, Rock A Bye Your Bear and Toot Toot Chugga Chugga, at the Regent Theatre in Dunedin on September 22 and the Civic Theatre in Invercargill on September 23.

At the end of the year, Mr Fatt, Mr Cook and Mr Page will hand over the purple, red and yellow skivvies to a new generation of performers so they can take on backstage creative roles.

Mr Field will continue on stage as the blue Wiggle alongside Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie and Simon Pryce, who have been hand-picked by the group to become the yellow, purple and red Wiggles.

"We've been entertaining children around the world for 21 years and it's important that we plan for the future so that the Wiggles can keep wiggling in the years to come," Mr Field said.
