That is because Dunedin singer Kylie Price dedicated her original song A Man I Know to her father, Graeme.
Before singing in the New Zealand original composition section, Miss Price (18) told the audience on Sunday night her song was dedicated to her father, who was diagnosed with cancer last year.
She wrote it while her father was in hospital to tell him some important things she had been unable to say in person. The lyrics are reproduced below.
Mr Price told the Otago Daily Times he cried when he heard his daughter perform the song for the first time on Sunday morning.
"I'm very, very proud, after everything we've been through. It's been an emotional time."
Miss Price said she was shocked to come away with the top title.
"It's so weird. I watch it [the Gold Guitars] every year. Last year when I saw Vickie [Evans] win, I thought it would be awesome if that was me up there."
She said her father was the inspiration behind several of her songs, with some having received awards.
"He likes that most of my winning songs are about him," she laughed.
As well as winning the overall award at the weekend, she also won the gospel, country rock, traditional and New Zealand composition sections.
Miss Price, who studies music and English at the University of Otago, started playing guitar when she was 7 and began singing lessons at 11.
She is no stranger to Gold Guitar fame after winning four sections and being named overall winner of the intermediate section two years ago. She also performed in the Otago Daily Times Big Night In community concert at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in November, and has won numerous other awards and competitions.
More than 1200 people filled the Gore Town and Country Club for the senior finals on Sunday night, watching 40 performances from 11 sections.
