Woman cut from car after Roseneath crash (+ video)

A woman had to be cut from her car after it plunged on to the highway at Roseneath, near Port Chalmers, today.

The woman's vehicle left District Rd and slid about 20m down a bank on to State Highway 88 about 9.30am.

Port Chalmers Volunteer Fire Brigade station officer Cory White said the woman had moderate injuries, and had to be cut from the car.

''It appears she has come from the top of the embankment - that's the front bumper up in the trees - and ended up down in the Roseneath cutting on the main road here.''

She was taken to Dunedin Hospital.

Police are investigating but it is not yet clear what caused the accident.

The road was closed for about 90 minutes and traffic was diverted through Roseneath.
