A man was seriously injured while working in a ditch in St Leonards, Dunedin, this afternoon.
The man was working in the ditch, where fibre optic cable was being installed, beside a rural Ruru Ave property.
A Downer ute and trailer appear to have rolled off their blocks and hit the man.
Police, fire crews and St John were all on scene about 12.30pm.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said a 50-year-old man was taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
