It was the ideal weather for golf yesterday and about 60 Dunedin youngsters got out of the class room and got a club in their hand at Belleknowes Golf Club.

A Kickstart golf programme had run throughout the year teaching year 5-8 pupils the basics and how to play their way around the golf course.

The year culminated with a tournament for the year 7-8 pupils yesterday, with about 60 pupils taking part.

The pupils competed in 16 teams of four players, with golfers playing alternate shots.

A Balmacewen Intermediate team won the competition, finishing seven shots ahead of a Macandrew Intermediate side.

It was second on countback from another Balmacewen team.
